THE FLAWLESS BRIDAL LOOK - DO's & DONT's for HAIR, MAKEUP & DRESS

One of the most common statements utilized at a wedding is, "she looked so beautiful". Of course, even if the bride did not put her best foot forward, not many guests will comment that bride did not look beautiful. If you are a bride who has never tampered with glamorous looks, or you are not sure how to go about the Aesthetic portion of the Wedding Day, then this article is for you. I am writing this article to answer some of the most basic questions asked by my Brides.

Lets face it, no one wakes up looking perfect and flawless. There is always work that goes into it. Today we are going to talk about some frequently asked questions, and the Do’s / Dont’s that comes with it. Here are some typical questions:
  • Do I pay for the dress, hair or makeup services for my bridesmaids?
  • Who should I take with me when choosing my bridal dress or for my hair makeup trial?
  • How long before the wedding should I start looking for a dress, makeup artist & hair stylist?
  • How do I set up a space for the artist and stylist if they are coming to my bridal suite?
  • Should I cut my hair before the wedding?
  • Do I tip my makeup artist and hair stylist?
  • How do I communicate to the artist of the vision I have in my mind?

DON’Ts

  • DON'T show up to your dress fitting or hair makeup trial with contradictory ideas. DECIDE ON ONE PICTURE that describes your vision to avoid any confusion. Be specific about what you want for your dress and your hair makeup look.
      • Don't bring this picture:

      • When you really want this:

  • DON'T use the word natural to describe nude. Brides are infamous for saying, “I want to look natural, like I am not wearing any makeup at all". But often shows this picture as an example:

ATTENTION BRIDES!! This "NATURAL LOOK" require 1.5 hour to achieve. Typically 15-30 different makeup products are used for Kim K Looks. FIND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO STYLES BELOW:

      • Natural Makeup:
      • Nude Makeup:

  • If you have a high maintenance mom, DO NOT bring your mother to your Dress Fitting, Hair Makeup Trial or to your Bridal Suite the day of the wedding. As much as we love our moms or working with the Mother of the Bride, Mothers often have very different vision in mind for their daughter's look. They also have extremely high expectations, that might not fit your budget or vision.

Bring your mom, IF you and your mom are always on the same page:

  • DON'T cut your hair the week, two weeks or the month of your wedding. Accidental bad hair cuts can end up very disappointing.
  • DON'T designate your stylists and artists in a cramped space on the day of the wedding or crowd them by inviting your entire family & friends into the bridal suite. Do you really want to feel like this on your wedding date:

Makeup can be easily smudged, someone can accidentally touch a hot iron and you will receive tons of varying opinions that will cause for more stress. Once the artists and stylists finish with the hair makeup for your bridal party, assign them wedding related tasks away from the bridal suite. If your family members wants to come see you, tell them to arrive before or after you get ready. You can always ask one or two individuals (who are not too bossy) to stay behind to help with your dress.

  • Don’t be a bridezilla. And Don’t fix what is not broken. Everything does not have to be perfect. Take a deep breath and remember it IS about you, but it is also about your loved ones who took time out of their schedule to support you. Don’t let the small things ruin your big day. We noticed that brides who fret the most about the tiny details, end up having the most issues on the day of their wedding. This goes for bridal look as well. When you nit pick on the little details, you can ruin the fitting of your dress, smudge your makeup, irritate your skin or end up causing the artist to not be able to fix any errors caused due to tampering. Just like life, look at the bigger picture.

DO’s

  • Do pre plan for your Wedding look. Have a dress fitting scheduled 6 months prior, and hair makeup trial three months before the wedding. Wear a white shirt for your hair and makeup trial so you can see what your makeup would look like on the day of.
  • Do bring a friend to your dress fitting. Bring a friend who is honest, but not overtly picky, and someone who does not hover over you.
  • Do Get enough sleep the month of the big day, so you don’t look like this:
  • Do get on a skin regimen. I recommend Pure Vitamin E oil to fight dry skin, wrinkles, and to moisturize cracked skin. See a dermatologists for prescription Hydroquinone that lightens dark spots. Also inquire about medicated acne lotion for spot treatments to will help avoid this:
  • Do offer to pay for the dress for your bridesmaids or for their hair makeup services. According to general wedding etiquette, if your bridesmaids paid for the dress, pay for either their hair or for their makeup. If your bridesmaids paid for a really expensive dress, pay for BOTH hair AND makeup. A 20% gratuity is standards for anyone in the beauty industry. BUT, if you are paying for the hair and makeup, it is not irrational to ask them to cover the gratuity for the stylist who serviced them.
  • DO have an awesome time with all of your loved ones and an amazing start to the rest of your life!
